ICYMI: Tonon Finishes Burns, Tererê Beats Shaolin; IBJJF, UAEJJF, Fight to Win Pro Results
Another weekend has come and gone and once again the action was non stop for the grappling community. There were great options all over the world. Here’s a quick roundup in case you missed something.
Polaris 4 – Tonon taps Burns, Tererê beats Shaolin
In poole, England, the fourth edition of Polaris 4 was probably the most thrilling of all. The two main events had all the ingredients the Jiu-Jitsu fan loves. In the co-main event, Garry Tonon wrote another chapter in his brilliant grappling career. After a very fast paced match, Tonon was able to catch the two-time no-gi world champion Gilbert “Durinho” Burns in a toehold. In the main event, a classic match was reenacted. BJJ legend Fernando Tererê came back to face his long time rival Vitor Shaolin. Both world champions, the two put on quite a show for the crowd. IBJJF results from the 2016 Pan Pacific Championship
The IBJJF returned to Australia this weekend. The Jiu-Jitsu community gathered in Melbourne for two days of great action. Nova União’s William Dias was the standout with a gold medal in the adult black belt open class and a silver medal at the middleweight division. In the teams’ competition, Australian Elite Team topped the podium with 462 points. Click here for the full results.
UAEJJF results from Canada, Greece and the UAE
The UAEJJF held three events this weekend. In Toronto, the Canada National Pro gathered the grappling community in search of travel packages for the 2017 ADWPJJC. Click here for the full results. In Athens, the Greece National Pro also awarded travel packages. Click here for the results. In the UAE, the Al Ain International Open got some of the best athletes together. The highlight was the black belt match between Jose Junior and Ricardo Evangelista in the black belt 110kg division. Junior won by penalties. Click here for the complete results.
Fight to Win Pro 17
The Fight to Win Pro series of events reached its 17th edition this weekend. in North Richard Hills, Texas, the main event featured João Gabriel Rocha and James Puopolo. The Brazilian was able to score a decision win after a very tough match. Click here for the full results.
