ICYMI: Bia wins GPC GP, Bendo beats AJ, Miyao faces Ryan, more results from around the Jiu-Jitsu world

If you are a Jiu-Jitsu fan, it’s becoming harder and harder to find a weekend to just chill out. With events popping all over the globe, there’s action going on all the time. This past weekend was no different and once again the gentle art community was treated with some intense action on the mats. Here are the highlights in case you missed it.

Benson Henderson beats AJ Agazarm in thrilling match

The main event of Fight to Win Pro 37, this past Friday, in Phoenix, Arizona, was a all ou war between Ben Henderson and AJ Agazarm. The action was non stop between two of the most exciting athletes out there. In the end, Bendo won via referees decision after maintaining control of the match most of the time. DJ Jackson retains GPC belt, Bia Mesquita wins female GP

In Florida, the Grappling Pro Championships was another great option for those seeking high level competition. In the female GP, Bia Mesquita confirmed that she is in one of the best moments of her career. In three matches, she submitted all of her opponents including the always tough Talita Alencar with a rear naked choke to win the $10k grand prize in the final. Other than that, the event offered a clash between the always game Vagner Rocha and two-time black belt world champion DJ Jackson. DJ had a dominant performance to outscore Rocha 24-8 and keep his belt. Click here for the full results.

Paulo Miyao beats Nicky Ryan in a unexpected match

The black belt world champion saw himself in a tough spot against the brave and very skilled 15-year-old purple belt. Paulo Miyao used his experience and his skills to eventually put a break on Nicky Ryan’s drive and outscored the young talent 7-0. Watch the match here.

UAEJJF takes its tour to Goiania, Brazil

The Goias International Pro gathered hundreds of athletes this Sunday, June 25, at the Ginásio Municipal, in the state capital of Goiania.

The event featured male and female athletes of all ages and also para-athletes. The crowd was pleased with an awesome display of the highest level of Jiu-Jitsu on the mats throughout the day.

In the adult male black belt division, some of the best competitors in the region poured their hearts out on the mats in search of the gold medal and the valuable points in the UAEJJF annual ranking.

In the end, male adult black belt champions were: 69kg – Rodrigo Cardoso; 77kg – Mateus Garcia; 85kg – Vinicius Garcia; 94kg – Marcus Ruiz; 110kg – Igor Marques; Open Class (light) – Rodrigo Cardoso; Open Class (Heavy) – Fernando Tsushima. In the female brown/black belt division, results were: 62kg – Erika Neto.

In the teams competition, the academies put their best effort to come out on top at the end. Here’s how the results turned out: 1st – NS Brotherhood – 3350pts; 2nd – Gracie Barra – 2005pts; 3rd – Nova União – 1000pts. Click here for the complete results.

IBJJF thrills in Brazil and the UK
