Asian Open: Calasans, Dern open class champions; other results

The IBJJF held this weekend in Tokyo, Japan the 2016 Asian Open championship. Some of the belt competitors in the world gathered at the historical Budokan Arena for two days of great Jiu-Jitsu.

In the black belt division, Claudio Calasans Jr. and Mackenzie Dern were the standouts after winning the open class division. Calasans did more and also won the medium-heavy division. In his weight class, the world champion from Atos JJ beat Alliance’s Alec Baulding and then in the absolute he beat Leandro Kussano.

In the women’s division, Mackenzie needed a single match to win the open class with a win over Isabelle de Souza. In the team’s competition, results were:

Adult Male

1 – Atos Jiu-Jitsu – 95

2 – Infight Japan Jiu-Jitsu – 32

3 – Impacto Japan B.J.J. – 26

Adult Female

1 – Atos Jiu-Jitsu – 32

2 – Maromba Academia International – 21

3 – Gracie Barra – 16
