Abu Dhabi King of Mats: Isaac Doederlein ready to climb to the top of the lightweight bracket in Tokyo

American Isaac Doederlein is traveling to Tokyo, Japan, with a mission. He wants the first place trophy in the Abu Dhabi King of Mats lightweight bracket, which goes into play on July 27, at the Ota Gymnasium. Isaac is an ADKOM veteran, as he competed in the second edition of the lightweight division, this past March, in London.

In the UK, Isaac had to settle for the second place, as he lost the final to Brazil’s Paulo Miyao by split referees decision. This time, Isaac will not settle for anything less than first place. He talks about his mindset coming in the event: “My mindset is great coming in, I have been training really hard for this moment and will do everything in my power to grab that title!”

After the ADKOM, the weekend of Jiu-Jitsu will not be over for Isaac. The black belt under Rubens Cobrinha is also registered to compete in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tokyo adult male 69kg division. The weight class is filled with tough opponents, such as Diego Pato, Thiago Macedo and Cleber Fernandes. Isaac talks about how he will pace himself for the best performance in both events: “I’m very prepared for many battles in a short period of time. Last time, in London, I competed 9 times in two days! One thing I have changed in my training since then is I included a lot of anaerobic conditioning, so my gas tank will be even more prepared this time.”

The Abu Dhabi King of Mats – Lightweight is scheduled July 27, at the Ota Gymnasium, in Tokyo, Japan. The 8-men bracket features Isaac Doederlein, Gabriel Sousa, Diego “Pato” Oliveira, Nobuhiro Sawada, Tomoyuki Hashimoto, Wanki Chae, Thiago Macedo and Cleber Fernandes.
