2015 IBJJF Worlds Day 2 Recap
Day 2 at the 2015 Worlds is a wrap with Alliance’s purple belts taking center stage in the purple belt absolute division finals. Training out of Porto Alegre under Mario Reis, Nicholas Meregali finally secured the double gold medal to complete his domination in the purple belt division. Meregali now gets to claim the double gold grand slam after accomplishing the same at Europeans, Pans, World Pro, and Brazilian Nationals previously. The medal podium in the purple men’s open class was completed by Rafael de Lima of PSLPB Cicero Costha, Rudson Teles of Brasa and Brysen French of Impact Jiu Jitsu. With the win, Nicholas Meregali moves on to the brown belt division after being awarded his faixa marrom on the podium. On the women’s side at purple belt in the 2015 Worlds, Tayane Porfirio of Alliance RJ was able to best BTT’s Yacinta Nguyen-Huu to win her own double gold. Like her teammate Meregali, Tayane now gets to claim her own grand slam after previously winning double gold at Worlds, Brazilian Nationals, Pan, European and WPJJC. Over on the blue belt side, Gustavo Espindola Batista of PSLPB Cicero Costha won absolute gold after besting Jackson Pinheiro of Gracie Elite while Gabrielle Lima of Gracie Humaita won the women’s open after a close and competitive match with Michelle Welti of TLI. With Friday over, the rest of the weekend now opens the way for brown and black belts to take center stage.
